If You Could Rename Jehovah's Witnesses What Would You Call 'em?
by Incense_and_Peppermints ini chose "the society of smoke and mirrors" or "the fuzzy logicians".
but the best one is "the blindfaithians".

No more meetings for me!
by cyberguy inwell, after being out-of-town for nearly 2 months, i?ve decided i can no longer go to any meetings after returning home (not that i was going to that many beforehand).
i?m not sure what is happening to me, but i?ve actually developed an aversion to anything "watchtower!
" i cannot even read the literature, including current awake and watchtower magazines, without getting extremely nauseous!

The Tsunami: A Time For New Architechture?
by Valis inyou know after the tsunami, i started thinking about discussions and ideas our good friend jim_tx talks about sometimes.
maybe some of the architechtural damage could have been avoided by stuff that "went w/the flow" as it were.
i was imagining islands covered w/domes instead of hut like or even regular style asian buildings.

In all seriousnes, Valis, this is an interesting post.
I am an architect. There has been a new "internationsl" building code instituted throughout the USA. The structural requirements have been toughened up.
Places like Florida always had stricter construction requirements to prevent hurricane damage; California had very specific earthquake requirements.
The new building codes have now made EVERY region in the country follow the same construciton techniques.
While I do not know of any specific requirements for 100 year tsunami floods; you cannot build a house anywhere ( under this new international code) within 100 feet of a water line.
BTTT, Architecture specifically designed to withstand the impact of a 40 foot wave would be interesting. Remember, in 9/11, the World Trade Towers were designed to withstand the impact of a jumbo jet; and they did. It was the intense fire and heat which brought them down. If the steel of the towers had been insulated with terra cotta block ( as many of the older skyscapers are) they could have withstood the heat longer to allow people to escape.
Architecture has many facets. Structure is far more interesting and creative than we might suspect.

Jehovah's Witness family wanted for "Trading Spouses"
by Dogpatch inthis is legit, i got this email and called cat.

wouldn't that be a scream?

this is VERY FUNNY
It will be interesting to see how the Watchtower B&TS will respond. This could be a great showcase for their propagands; or they could condemn it.
I doubt any JW family ( elder, CO or otherwise) would take it upon themselves to make the decision to appear; not without direct WB&TS approval.

JW definition of disassociating yourself?
by wordlywife incan someone help me to understand what it would mean to a loyal witnes to diassociate yourself, and to the org?
having seen what happened during my husband's df, and his subsequentreinstatement, what would it mean to da yourself?
would you be treated the same as being df?

also, by dissaccociating yourself, you have the satisfaction of knowing it was YOUR INITIATION of the break rather than theirs.
The best course of action is not to validate the JW beliefs; leaving on your terms empowers YOU as the individual; not them.

Who Is The Most Beautiful Woman or Man In The World???
by minimus inpictures would be nice, too.
-
franklin J
for the most beautiful woman in the world....
I would have to say that Grace Kelly; Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Onassis ( icons of beauty and grace from a boomer generation ago) are all dead...
However, I do think that my wife; Patty Burke, runs a close second to them....

Did apostates get you?
by Peppermint inas a jehovah?s witness how did you respond to apostates?
do you recall from your past any chance encounters with one?
did this actually lead to you leaving the truth?
-
franklin J
Occasionally we would come in contact with someone who was an X JW. Back in those days, I do not recall the term "apostate" being used.
We would ignore them; after all, we had JEHOVAH on our side.
HAH!
In hindsite, I do believe that one must actually "live" the experience to understand what exiting that religion, and leaving it behind , is all about.
It is a very elite club which we all belong to.

Will the Watchtower Society help only Jehover Witnesses?
by Elsewhere inthat you may prove yourselves sons of your father who is in the heavens, since he makes his sun rise upon wicked people and good and makes it rain upon righteous people and unrighteous.
for if you love those loving you, what reward do you have?
are not also the tax collectors doing the same thing?

franklin J
I have never seen them offer to help non believers....
The Catholic church does; Jehovahs Witnesses do not
